Securing the drug circuit

Because a treatment is only truly safe if each step, from prescription to administration, is controlled, securing the drug circuit must be one of your priorities in order to guarantee patient safety, reduce drug risks and support your healthcare professionals.
Icones Services supports you in securing the medication circuit in your healthcare establishments and PUI.

The drug circuit, what are we talking about?

The drug circuit includes the prescription, the analysis/validation of this prescription, the preparation, delivery-dispensing, distribution and administration of the medication. In other words, all the steps that transform a prescription into actually administered care:
  • Prescription and pharmaceutical analysis;
  • Dose preparation in the pharmacy;
  • Analytical control and release;
  • Dispensing/dispensing in the clinical department;
  • Administration to the patient, followed by recording in the patient’s file.
Clearly identifying these links makes it possible to identify breaking points (dosage errors, ambiguous labeling, release delays) and to implement targeted solutions to secure them.

Identified risks

Without a suitable safety device, each step can generate failures: a dilution error during preparation, ambiguous labeling during delivery or a delay in release compromising the protocol. A source of medication errors and serious adverse events, these risks, often invisible, nevertheless have a direct impact on patient safety and the workload of your teams.
  • Dosage or dilution errors
  • Product/labeling confusion
  • Release delays impacting care
  • Forgotten or delayed administration of medication.
